Online Bully Prevention Tip

When Bullies Question You About Telling

Many kids are concerned about reporting bullying and teasing problems to school staff because they are concerned that if others find out they "told" they will get teased ever more.

Well - it's every student's RIGHT to inform staff of what is going on and it's every student's RIGHT to attend school without being bullied or teased.  What can victims say to a kid who confronts them by saying "You ratted on me I know it" after a counselor or administrator has spoken to him about teasing or bullying? Here’s several simple and effective responses:

"It wasn’t me but it will be next time if you do it again."

"I guess others are just tired of seeing you do this to me."

"I wouldn't waste my time talking about you - it was someone else."

"Why don't you just leave people alone and you won't have to worry about stuff like this."

Counselors and Administrators should NEVER tell the bully or teaser or his or her parents who provided staff with the information.  Why?  IT IS IRRELEVANT. What is relevant is stopping the bullying and teasing.
